BRIEF PROFILE OF NSCDC KADUNA STATE COMMAND
In actualization of the statutory mandates of the Corps in general and Kaduna State in particular, the Command carries out different security duties to ensure peace and orderliness. Officers in the command perform routine vehicular and foot patrols yielding positive result in the averting of crimes, arrest of vandals and other suspected criminals. The command operates under the leadership of an indefatigable Commandant, Alhaji Zakari Ibrahim Ningi and has recorded successes. The success story of the command is connected to the synergy which exists with the Corps and other sister agencies in the state.
On assumption of duty in the state, the Commandant paid courtesy visits to the Commissioner of Police, Director of State Security Services and Coordinator of Operation Yaki who coordinates Joint security operations in the State.
Similarly, the Commandant has embarked on familiarization visits to stakeholders like Kaduna Refinery and Petrol Chemicals and Petroleum Products Marketing Company, National Oil Spill Detector and Response Agency (NOSDRA), Kaduna Environmental Protection Authority, Federal Ministry of Environment Kaduna Office, Ministry of Justice Kaduna, 41 Division Engineer Dalet Barracks Kaduna, Federal Road Safety Corps Kaduna, and other sister agencies in the State.
The Commandant has also received on courtesy visits operators of Private Guard Companies Association as well as from Global Initiative for Women and Children (GIWAC), Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (NURHI) and Personnel from other Agencies to mention but a few.
Besides, the NSCDC boss has also commenced an unscheduled familiarization tour round the 23 Local Government Areas of the State, this was to ensure the Divisional Officers and their Area Commanders are working round the clock to ensure total commitment to fulfillment of the Core mandate of NSCDC and justification of the Tax Payers money expended on the personnel. The result of the aforementioned has culminated in confidence bestowed on the Corps to enhance its performance in the State.
Yet to get the best from the personnel, the Command has currently organized a Retraining Programme for all categories of personnel. The areas of retraining cover Drill, Physical Training, Intelligence and Civil Defence Duties among other aspects. So far, no fewer than 1,500 personnel of the Corps have benefitted. It is hoped that with the continuous retraining programme the Corps would maintain a good public outlook through good performance. The Command has continually sued for public support through the media and in different fora.
Undoubtedly, the performance of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC,) has proved that the Corps has justified its statutory existence. This is sequel to the tempo by which the NSCDC has set off in pursuit of its mandate of putting Nigeria among countries with low wave of crimes. In view of the good beginning, it is difficult to make an honest impact assessment of security agencies in Nigeria without mentioning the Corps. Instances like security of venues during party primaries for State and National Assemblies, Gubernatorial and Presidential flag-bearers, evacuation and assisting of victims of bomb blasts, reduction of activities of kidnappers and rigorous anti-vandal wars are among many of such events. All over the country, personnel of the Corps are deployed to ensure success of the electoral exercise. The outcome of this strategy has resulted in few complaints of electoral fraud due to the credibility of the security agencies which protected the human and electoral materials at different locations.
To consolidate on the national achievements of the NSCDC, the Kaduna State command has demonstrated its commitment to inter-agency cooperation which has endeared it to residents of the state and even visitors. For instance, the performance of the NSCDC in the formidable state security outfit, Operation Yaki and Yaki Riders cannot go unnoticed. The personnel are actively involved in controlling what would have been serious traffic bottleneck within the metropolis, especially on the bridge and the only major road that link Kaduna South and the central part. In realisation of the important role played by the team, the state government has approved motorcycles to the team to ease their work. Also, to comb the nooks and crannies of the state, the state government distributed more Hillux vans to complement the already existing ones; the donated Ambulances were for regular patrols in response to emergencies. The visits of the Commandant to the various Divisions has since been yielding positive dividend. Vehicles and Motor bikes were donated to the Corps, more promises of donation of vehicles to the Corps to enhance operative performance from some of the Chairmen of already visited Local Government Areas in the State were also made, notable is NNPC and Ikara L.G.A. and two other L.G.As visited during the tours. The role of the routine patrol officers has resulted in timely response to emergency situations like accidents and evacuation of casualties to hospitals and settlement of disputes to prevent civil unrests.
The Commandant advocated that effort should be re-doubled in surveillance and intelligence gathering to nib crimes in the bud as far as Kaduna is concerned. This he has been able to achieve by deploying personnel of the Corps to Mosques and Churches during their weekly services to collaborate with other Sister Agencies in ensuring orderliness and hitch free services within the State. It is also remarkable to note that the proactive measures taken by the Command is yielding result because public infrastructures are secured within the state. In few situations that perpetrators of various criminal acts insists on carrying out dastardly acts, many have been arrested and sanctioned appropriately.
In demonstrating this drive, the Commandant has constantly featured in the popular Hausa weekly National FRCN radio program
